When we are ready to transform,

When we have accepted the call to adventure beyond ourselves,

We meet the guardians of the threshold.

They are the ones who challenge our passing.

They are the protectors of our ego and personality,

Who think its too dangerous for us to pass!

In dreams these figures come in numerous forms;

Police, military, watchmen, monsters, animals, giants, ogres, demons, dragons…

They stand at the entrance to our deeper selves and ask us

“Are you sure you are ready for this?”

Or they try to stop us…

Sometimes they are representative of all we have built up until now;

Including all of our painful and karmic experiences.

We have to be willing to face all of this,

And offer up a part of ourselves in return for encountering a deeper one.

Just as churches and temples have guardians at the entrances,

Who seem to demand an offering or sacrifice.

So too, must we surrender our attachment to all that we have known and collected about who we are,

And offer this to the guardian.

Once we have shown that we are willing to be completely annihilated, transformed and built anew,

Then we will be allowed to pass the threshold and encounter the deep.

We have come to this point because we desire more,

We know there is a deeper truth,

We wish to explore the secrets of the hidden world.

Are we ready to drop all we have known and face the truth of ourselves?

Are we ready to face all of our deepest fears?

The guardian holds a magical power, bestowed upon us when we are ready to proceed.

They become an ally,

They take us on a journey into ourselves,

And show us that our strength and purpose comes not from our personality, ego or any outer circumstance
